That article made a lot of good points, that's for sure. SNES, NES, Playstation, PS2 and the 360 are great choices. I would also like to make an honourable mention to the N64, since it was the first console to really bring us great 3D gaming, as well as our first taste of 4 player splitscreen multiplayer. Games like Mario 64, Zelda OoT and the infamous GoldenEye were great games that really revolutionized gaming. I will admit though, it was not without its flaws. Cartridges kept space down an...

It would be nice if they did bring back (near) full backwards compatability for those of us who want it. If they used a 100-120 (or larger) GB hard drive, I probably wouldn't even bother upgrading it. It is a lot of space, after all, especially for a games console. I don't see the PS3 or the 360 offering us much in the way of large downloads this generation (unless they both start to offer more last generation games on each.

You are right. It is nice that Sony allows you to pre...

I'm hoping they put the PS2 chip back in the newer model. I've been meaning to get a PS3 to complement my Xbox 360 but I've been wanting to play some of the PS2 games I never got the chance to last generation. I think there is real value in adding that chip into the new model. I hope they do.

I used to play this game lots when I was younger, and I have to admit it was a fun game. Short but fun (especially with the secret Napalm gun). It would be nice to see Konami take this old franchise and turn it into an XBLA or PSN game. Not so much a remake, maybe a sequel or something. Something done to Cybernator like what is being done with Bionic Commando could be good.

Well, if I think back, Rare and Microsoft have already been able to avoid Nintendo all together when they released the port of Conker's Bad Fur Day on the original XBox. That game was originally published by Nintendo and exclusive to the N64 back when it was released, and made by Rare while Nintendo still owned them. Yet, Microsoft was able to get Rare to port it to the original Xbox when it was made, with no Nintendo stamp on it.

I don't know what part of the original contract...

I used to be a die-hard PC gamer, but recently it is just to difficult (or more precesisely, pricy) to jump into PC gaming. If you want to make a truly decent gaming PC, you need to spend a few grand on components. Some of you might still have some good stuff still lieing around that can be reused from one rig to the next, I know I do. But components are costing far more then they used to. I've seen the top Geforce cards going for like 600-700 dollars, yikes. Top CPUs going for over a grand. ...

This probably would be out of reach for the average consumer, obviously. And content providers will probably not offer any content in these resolutions (consoles only do up to 1080p now, and most of it is scaled). 1080p is the highest any content offered right now goes up to (minus PC games of course). Now, these monitors do have a use, especially in industry. One screen could display 4 or more images of HD video at once, which would be good for monitoring equipment and the like. There defina...

I personally think it is never a good idea to include extra game content like levels with a special edition of a game. That just separates the community into those that do have the content and those that don't. Glad they never did that. But of course they had some levels being built, at least partially or almost finished by the time Halo 3 shipped. They make money off of downloadable content, it's business. they just charge too much is all.

I just hope they don't overcharge for packs that include older maps, even if they have been touched up. A pack with all new content, fine, charge us for it, but if it's old maps, they should be bundling up 2 or 3 of them on top of a couple of new ones, so like 4-6 maps in a pack for the same price. Just seems fair.

Not a bad track listing. Too bad MS points cost too much, 7.75 and tax for 500 MS points up here in Canada, ouch. That's (roughly) the same as 7.75 US, but in the USA they only cost $6.25USD. Either Activision brings their price down, or Microsoft changes the pricing on points (or both) otherwise I am not buying these.

Check out that comic, it pretty much sums up everything. If that does not work, those of you who can't figure it out it's the comic from December 5th, 2007 titled "Interesting Choice of Words".

I, personally, would rather they develop the current game more, with more content. I don't need to go out and buy another guitar hero game next year. Why not just keep the current version fresh with new content. And I'm not talking slack pack 3 song downloads that cost 500 MS points each (in Canada, that is $7.75 with tax, ouch), but a real, true expansion pack(s) for the current game. New sets, new songs, new rockers, new stories (or lack of I guess), etc.... but for the current game. Like w...

Impressive but pricey. I have never understood why PC graphics cards cost so much, even more then a single console in some cases. If a high end card sold for 350-400$, I could see more people adopting such configuration. But at 500-700 a card, ouch. Not for me thanks.

Same thing with CPUs. Even the most high end CPU typically does not cost nearly as much to produce as it does to sell it, even after research and developement is factored in.

Neat. I did not know that. That does sound like some impressive technology. Any way to save space, after all.

The only problem with releasing a game on multiple discs is that you need to place repeated data onto each disc. Like the character models and such. Stuff that is going to be used over throughout the games has to be placed onto each disc. So even if in theory, you have the same amount of space on multiple discs, in reality you would need more discs just to make up for the repeated data.

Multiple discs are usually fine for fairly linear games. I mean, Gears of War on multiple di...

I have to agree with what you just wrote. Many games out there right now are not utilizing Blue-Ray in any kind of significant way or to it's "potential", if you want to call it that. It really benefits fitting high definition movies onto a disc, first and foremost, same with HD-DVD. However, I do think if developers had the option to fit their games onto slightly larger discs, they would utlize it. 25 gigs that blue ray can hold is a lot. I mean, it is a lot. I don't too many devel...

I wonder if you're right there. Could Microsoft update the 360's firmware in order to make a larger, proprietary DVD format accessible. Even if it was only one more layer, so a DVD-15 (~15 Gigs) that would still be plenty, same as a single layer HD-DVD almost. I just don't think it's possible though. Maybe, but probably not. I'm not sure if the laser in the drive is able to focus on a different layer. I think back in the day, DVD drives used to have 2 lasers, one for each layer. Nowadays no. ...

The funny thing was, last generation it really helped the original XBox. You would figure it would have been a no brainer to make an hard drive standard on their next console? I bought my 360 when they where still in short supply, so I ended up with a Core model. A day or so later, when the stores received their stock of hard drives, I bought one right away. I wonder how many people out their don't have a hard drive on their 360s at all?

I also wonder why they released that new...

Ouch. I wonder how this would run with Quad Crossfire HD 3870s? I mean, ouch. I ran the COD 4 demo at 1920x1080 (no AA), with most settings turned on high, with my x1950 PRO 512 meg card on my old Pentium 4 3.4 Ghz Northwood (yes, that is an AGP card with a socket 478 CPU, single core, oh and 2 gigs of RAM), and the game ran fine. Only hicupped a few times. but it was always playable. Crysis sure is demanding.

I own a 360 but I have to admit, Microsoft kinda screwed up when they released the 360 in it's current state. Forget about it lacking HDMI, that's not even a big deal (it's just a sneaky way to bring content creators HDCP protected content, and some better audio format in the newest version which is a big deal I guess, but 1.3 didn't exist when the 360 came out so it wouldn't have mattered). Forget about the shoddy reliablity of the first few batches of consoles (I sent one back myself). The ...
